Day six - the amalfi coast

I got up this morning around 7:30 to see part of our villa family off to the train station for the rest of their journey. We went back into town to pick up some groceries. I was back in heaven at our local supermarket. We picked up more fruit and the fixings to make spaghetti tonight. I bought broccoli to use as my pasta and i grabbed fresh buffalo mozzarella from the deli counter to make me caprese salad for lunch tomorrow. Eggs (not refrigerated) were the highlight though. The minute i got home i boiled those bad boys up and had them for breakfast. Once we ate and tidied up, we started our adventure to the amalfi coast.

Amber was our fearless leader, driving us in the little Mercedes that could. The roads are very windy and dangerous as the locals tend to drive fast and cut the corners. We decided the way drive here is aggressive with a little courtesy. The highway is more defensive as people park all along the coast to take pictures. We made it to positano, just past the wedding venue, with little trouble but once we got to town, there were buses, taxis, tourists and locals to maneuver around.

We missed the road that winds through town so we stopped on the other side to take in the view. We decided to keep going down the coast to see what it had to offer. We got to the next town and it really wasn't anything special so we turned back and see if we could find our way back to the main road down to the beach. Once we actually found the road, we started down many steep roads with sharp turns. Thankfully it was a one way street so we only had to worry about oncoming pedestrians.

We parked and walked down the road until we saw a sign indicating it was the way to the beach. We followed it down many steep steps until we saw the ocean. It was so nice but so hot. Gord and i took refuge under a snack bar patio while Lisa and Amber hit the beach.

We ran into Carmen, Tony and their families having lunch before they left for their water taxi down the coast. It was nice to just sit, watch the water and the people while having a smoothie. We did a bit of shopping then started our ascent. There were so many stairs but some nice photo ops along the way.

The trip was supposed to be nice and relaxing compared to the shopping we were going to do but it turned out to be way more effort! The drive back seemed calm in comparison with the most tumultuous driving happening just steps from our villa. A scooter forced Amber over on the turn, sending us into a giant pothole, then we had a hotel shuttle wedging us over and then another van trying to come down at us while we were trying to get into our parking spot.

Everyone dispersed after we arrived and did their own thing. I sat on the balcony to update the blog with three cats who like to hang around here (the third one is a calico, hiding in this pic).

We made our dinner and took one last tour into town to pick up the last of our souvenirs. Tomorrow is our last full day at the villa. The plan is to chill and meet with the wedding peeps on the beach then over to the wedding villas for a lasagna dinner.
